By everything's paid for I mean I paid a set price for the flights, lodging, and trips (such as the great wall). We get 8 meals a week. We are going to Shanghai, Changsha, and Beijing. We will be in Changsha for the majority of the trip. I have to buy gifts for at least 6 people.
I'm going to China for 18 days w/study abroad. Everything's paid for but shopping. How much should I bring?
well, depends on what you are looking to buy for them, things can be as cheap as 10rmb and as costly as you can imagine, I would suggest 500 USD that would equal 3500rmb, that is what I usually suggest to my friends who are coming over
Reply:Depends what you have a Yen for.
Buy the stuff at Walmart - it's all made in China.
Reply:You can buy Chinese tea, Wine, Chinese painting, calligraphy and something traditional. They dont cost much.
Prince range for tea: 10USD - 100USD
for calligraphy and painting: 10USD - hundreds USD (depends on where you buy)
for chinese seal: 1 USD -20USD (depends on material)
for Chinese wine: 10USD-50USD (Note: chinese alcohole is very very strong.)
and also snuff bottle with painting in side
price range: few USD=30USD (depends on the size and detail of the painting)

hope this will be heplful for you to choose gifts.
Reply:If you are looking to do some major shopping (clothes etc) you should take altogether RMB 3000-4000. Though, i must say the prices can differ a lot depending on what and were you shop and eat. Sometimes dinner can cost up to a couple of hundred dollars (RMB) for just 3-4 people... but I guess you weren't really be looking at something like that. =)
Reply:For the trip that my wife and myself, I am budgeting about 150USD per day...
Reply:it depend on which item you want to buy.
Reply:Bring $3,000. It should be enough.
BTW, Beijing and Shanghai has major ATM networks where you can withdraw your money in local currency.
